Why We Offer Medication-Assisted Weight Loss

At PRX Wellness, we treat mental health as whole-person care. Early in our practice, we noticed that many patients seeking help for depression were also struggling with obesity, low energy, and metabolic health challenges.

For some individuals, excess weight plays a direct role in depressive symptoms. In these cases, treating depression alone, especially with medications that may cause weight gain, does not always lead to meaningful improvement.

By supporting safe, medically supervised weight loss, many patients experienced improved energy, mood, and motivation. As their physical health improved, so did their emotional well-being. Many were also able to make lasting lifestyle changes that continued beyond medication.

Important Patient Notice: Changes to Compounded GLP-1 Medications

Recent FDA enforcement actions now prohibit U.S. pharmacies from dispensing compounded injectable tirzepatide and semaglutide. As a result, these versions are no longer available through Proximity (PRX) Wellness or any other legally operating pharmacy.

What This Means for You
If you previously used …Next Steps:

Compounded tirzepatide: Schedule a follow-up with your PRX provider to discuss transitioning to an FDA-approved brand (e.g., Mounjaro®).
Compounded semaglutide: Schedule a follow-up to discuss FDA-approved options such as Wegovy® (weight-loss) or Ozempic® (diabetes / off-label weight-loss).

Good News for Patients With Insurance

PRX providers can prescribe the branded, FDA-approved versions (Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ozempic).

Because every insurance plan is different:

Contact your insurer and ask:
- Is [Mounjaro / Wegovy / Ozempic] covered under my plan?
- What tier or prior-authorization requirements apply?
Bring any coverage details to your telemedicine visit so we can select the most cost-effective treatment.

Tip: Many insurers now require a prior authorization letter. We’ll handle the paperwork once you provide your plan information.

Uninsured or Out-of-Network?

If branded GLP-1 pricing is a barrier, don’t worry. We can:

Discuss alternative evidence-based medications (e.g., liraglutide)
Enroll you in manufacturer savings programs when available
Create a personalized nutrition, fitness, and behavioral-coaching plan
